Can I be a president some day?

T:  What is a delegate?

Dad: Where did you see that word?

T:  Every where! On small signs everywhere.

Dad: A delegate is like an agent. It’s a person who is selected by the people of a community to represent them.

T:  Can they be women?

Dad: Of course.

T:  How many women are delegates?

Dad: I don’t know honey.

T:  Can a woman be the president?

Dad: Sure she could.

T:  Are any women who are presidents?

Dad: Many women have been presidents of many countries. Currently there are few women who are presidents.

T:  How many?

Dad:  A few. Let us see; Germany, Israel, Philippines and Liberia. That’s all I know.

T:  Only four in the whole entire world?

Dad: There maybe more; That’s all I know.

T:  Dad, how many people live in this world?

Dad: six and half billion people live in this world.

T:  Oh my gosh!  SIX AND HALF BILLION?

Dad: That’s right. six and half billion.

T:  Dad, how many people are women in this world?

Dad: I’m not sure. I think about half of the world’s population are women.

T:  Can I be a president some day?

Dad: Of course you can. Do you want to be a president?

T:  Yes dad. I want to.

Dad: But, I have better plans for you.

T:  You always say that, dad. I want to be a woman president. Can you help me dad?

Dad: Of course I will help you.

T:  Can a president be republican?

Dad: Presidents are either republican or democrats. We only have two political parties in this country.

T:  Was George Washington a republican?

Dad: We did not have this party structure during his time?

T:  What dad?

Dad: Republican and Democratic parties started with Thomas Jefferson. George Washington was a Federalist.

T:  I want to be a federalist.

Dad: I don’t know any one who is a Federalist now days.

T:  Darn it.

Dad: Lincoln was a republican.

T:  What are you dad? Are you a republican? Or are you a democrat?

Dad: Remember what I said about religion and politics?

T:  Yes, I do. We can only talk about that to our families.

Dad: Right.

T:  I’m a family. Will you tell me?

Dad: I tell you how I am honey. I keep an open mind. When it’s time to vote, I vote for the candidate who has better ideas and is more prepared; I vote for the candidate who deserves my vote.

T:  Do I deserve your vote?

Dad: You have my vote!  When you’re older and you still want to be a president you have my vote.

T:  Thanks dad.

Dad: You’re most welcome sweetie.
